Nearly 1,000 customers experience power outage

From staff reports

A power outage left many Oil City residents and those in the surrounding area in the dark on Thursday at about 9:30 p.m.

At 10:25 p.m. Thursday, FirstEnergy Corp., which is the parent company of Penelec, reported 979 power outages in Venango County.

According to Penelec, 969 customers in Oil City were affected, and the remainder of the outages were in Cornplanter and Cranberry townships.

First Energy had anticipated a restoration time of 1 a.m., but power was back up shortly before 11 p.m.

Late Thursday night, a Venango County 911 dispatcher had no information as to what caused the outage.

At midnight, emergency dispatchers for FirstEnergy said they were still unsure what caused the outage.
