Movie rental store closing in next few weeks

From staff reports

Film Fest Video in Franklin is set to close near the end of the month.

The movie rental store, located at 1235 Liberty St., has operated in town for the past 12 years.

On Friday, owner Thomas Tidd said he had been considering shutting down the store for the past several months following a plummet in sales during the spring.

The video store is undergoing a liquidation sale as Tidd prepares to close the business at the end of September or early October after Applefest.

“It’s been a hard decision to make,” Tidd said. “I have always embraced small towns and all the people.”

Tidd opened the first Film Fest Video in Erie 25 years ago, eventually opening 14 stores across the region. Following the closure of the Franklin store, only two stores will remain in Union City and North East.

Film Fest Video relocated to its Liberty Street location in 2016, and was previously housed at 1281 Otter St. The former location was demolished as part of the construction of the Clarion County Community Bank last year.
