Memorial Day services set in Pleasantville

Memorial Day observances will be held Monday, May 27, in Pleasantville.

A parade will step off at 11:45 a.m. from the school parking lot.

Services will follow at Fairview Cemetery honoring veterans of Fairview and Jerusalem Corners Cemeteries 2018-2019. Mayor Martha A. Long will preside over the events.

The invocation will be given by the Rev. Shawn Jacobson of the Pleasantville Ministerium.

The guest speaker will be James Gross.

The Gettysburg Address will be recited by fifth-grade students including Alisa Chess, Joe Richard, Xaidien Singleton, Tyler Tenney and Mikayla Williams.

The roll call of veterans will be announced by David Fish, who is chairman of the Memorial Day committee.

Ken Spence will place the wreath in the cemetery.

The Titusville High School Band, directed by Scott Boyer, will perform.

In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Pleasantville volunteer fire hall.

Harvey Long and Bill August have placed veterans flags and crosses throughout the cemeteries.

Memorial Day committee members, in addition to Fish, are Harvey Long, Ken Spence, Steve Stewart, Bill August, Pastor Chuck Riel, Dan McMunn.

This year’s Memorial Day service is dedicated to John “Augie” Holtz, who chaired the committee for many years.
