Man jailed in fatal shooting at housing complex

NEW CASTLE (AP) — A man has been jailed on charges he fatally shot another man after an argument at a western Pennsylvania public housing complex.

Forty-six-year-old Joseph Cohen was arraigned early Wednesday on charges of criminal homicide and aggravated assault in the death of 25-year-old Demon Higgins.

New Castle police say the men were arguing at the Lincoln Terrace housing complex on Tuesday night when Cohen shot Higgins in the chest. Police didn’t immediately say what the argument was about.

Police arrived to find Higgins dead and they found Cohen in some nearby woods about 90 minutes later. Police say he had the suspected weapon, a .40-caliber pistol, tucked in his waistband.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Cohen who faces a preliminary hearing March 23.
