Man held for court on sex-related charges

A former Franklin man was held for court on five sex-related felonies, including incest, following a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

Danny Lee Malone Jr., 21, of 322 Brown Ave. in Butler, is charged with having sex with a female juvenile family member in 2010 or 2011 in Franklin.

A criminal complaint filed by Sugarcreek Borough police with district judge Patrick Lowrey says the girl told Children and Youth Services personnel and a forensic interviewer that she had been sexually assaulted by Malone.

The girl couldn’t recount an exact date in which the reported assault took place, but she was able to narrow it down to the 2010 or 2011 school year while school was in session, the complaint said.

Sugarcreek police interviewed Malone, who admitted to having sex with the girl. Malone said he couldn’t narrow the time span down to when it occurred, but he did say he feels he would have been under 18 himself at the time.

Brown is charged with felony counts of incest, indecent assault with a person less than 13 years of age, aggravated indecent assault of a child, sexual assault and rape of a child. He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of indecent assault without the consent of the other person.

Assistant district attorney Justin Fleeger is prosecuting the case, and public defender Matthew Parson is representing Malone.
