Man facing nearly 70 charges related to search at home

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing nearly 70 charges in connection with the drug arrests of four other people at a Franklin apartment last week.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Matthew Kirtland’s office said Franklin police conducted a search of an Arbor Circle apartment July 5 and found 25-year-old Grant Hugus in possession of a locked backpack.

The backpack contained 34 grams of methamphetamine, 18.5 grams of marijuana, 56 unused plastic baggies, a digital scale with white crystal residue, $340 in cash and several firearms that included a loaded pistol with a filed off serial number, the complaint said.

Police also observed in plain view inside the home a plastic baggie containing white pills that Hugus identified as muscle relaxers for which no one had a prescription, the complaint said.

The others arrested during the search were Lacey Chrispen, 38, of Knox; Chase Marvin, 20, of Franklin; Mariah Denny, 20, of Oil City; and Tyler Olaughlin, 24, of Oil City.

Hugus is facing six felony counts related to possession of a firearm without a license and possession of drugs with intent to manufacture or deliver, in addition to 63 misdemeanor counts related to possession of marijuana and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned before Kirtland and placed in the Venango County jail on $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
