An Oil City man is facing charges for allegedly stalking and sending his former girlfriend threatening messages.

A criminal complaint filed by Oil City police says officers received a harassment complaint at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday from a woman who said she was receiving threatening text messages from her former boyfriend, 33-year-old Travis Rowland.

The woman showed police messages and photos received from Rowland between Thursday and Sunday that suggested he was watching her from outside her home, the complaint said.

The woman also received a photo of a pile of bullets and a message that threatened to use them to harm her, the complaint said.

When police spoke with Rowland, he said he didn’t know who sent the messages and denied sending them, the complaint said.

Rowland also told police that if the woman got a protection from abuse order, the messages would stop, but if the charges filed were summary counts, he would plead guilty and pay the fine, the complaint said.

Police told Rowland that Probation and Parole would be faxing a detainer, and he would be placed in the Venango County jail, the complaint said.

Rowland told police he had just wanted to put the woman “through hell” so she would know what it felt like, the complaint said.

Rowland is facing misdemeanor counts of harassment, stalking, simple assault and terroristic threats causing serious public inconvenience.

He was arraigned before district judge Andrew Fish and placed in the Venango County jail on $150,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled Oct. 11 in Central Court.
