Man facing charges after incident with police at OC home

An Oil City man is facing charges for threatening to stab occupants of a home and then pushing, striking and head-butting Oil City police who arrived at the scene.

Police were dispatched to a house on Martin Street at about midnight Friday. Police said in a criminal complaint that Jeremy McCray, 42, who was wanted on warrants, was in a verbal argument with a woman.

McCray reportedly told occupants of the house that he had a knife and would stab them if police were called, the complaint said.

Police said they were let into the residence by a woman who told them McCray was hiding in the back bedroom, which is where police found him.

An officer twice told McCray to get on the ground and McCray said “no” both times, the complaint said.

When the officer grabbed McCray’s shoulder in an attempt to push him to the ground, McCray pushed the officer’s hand away and struck the officer in the chest with his fist, the complaint said.

The officer then drew his Taser and told McCray to get on the ground, the complaint said. McCray said no and began to “aggressively approach” the officer so the officer deployed his Taser, according to the complaint.

McCray continued to resist arrest by refusing to bring his hands behind his back as the officer told him to, the complaint said.

Officers eventually handcuffed and searched McCray, and they said they found a container with three zip-lock baggies.

One baggie was suspected to contain methamphetamine and the other two baggies contained white residue, the complaint said.

Police said they also found a small gray box that had a glass smoking pipe inside it as well as a gray knife that fell out of McCray’s waist band after the Taser was used.

McCray refused to get in the police cruiser and tried to head-butt one of the officers, but the officers got him into the cruiser and took him to the Oil City police station, the complaint said.

Police again searched McCray at the station and discovered a zip-lock baggie with blue stars on it that contained marijuana, the complaint said.

McCray has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, possessing a controlled substance (two counts) and use-possession of drug paraphernalia, and a summary count of harassment.

He was arraigned Saturday before district judge Andrew Fish and is being held in the Venango County jail after failing to post bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
