Man arrested for assaulting Oil City officer

An assault on an Oil City police officer has landed a Franklin man in jail.

James D. McVay, 31, was arrested by Oil City police after the incident about 8:55 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Hoffman Avenue, police said.

A report of a disturbance there brought officers to the scene and they tried to arrest McVay. He resisted but was eventually arrested, police said.

McVay was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault on a police officer, three counts each of resisting arrest and criminal mischief and single counts of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned Friday morning before district judge Matthew T. Kirtland and placed in the Venango County jail after failing to post bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.
