Man accused of assaulting officer waives hearing

From staff reports

A Franklin man accused of assaulting a police officer last week at an Atlantic Avenue residence waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

Kevin Whitman, 39, was charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault, two misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Matthew Kirtland’s office said that around 9:45 a.m. May 6, Franklin patrolman Sean Floor was dispatched to a residence at 234 Atlantic Ave. for a report of a threatening male.

Floor arrived and contacted Whitman and was advised Whitman was trying to injure his own family members, the complaint said.

Whitman charged at Floor and spit in his face, the complaint said. Floor tried to take Whitman into custody, and Whitman became aggressive, attempting to head butt and spit on the patrolman, the complaint said.

Floor had to physically restrain Whitman to place him in the patrol unit, at which time Whitman kicked the vehicle windows and threatened to kill Floor and Whitman’s own family members, the complaint said.

He remains in the Venango County jail on $65,000 bail.
