Local youths shine at inaugural Belted Galloway Junior Nationals

Coltin Cross, 16, of Rockland, Maria Schwab, 13, of Oil City, and Mark Snyder, 18, of Titusville, (from left) competed at the first-ever Belted Galloway Junior Nationals at the Medina County Fairgrounds in Ohio from June 25 to June 30.

Three local youths competed at the first-ever Belted Galloway Junior Nationals, which were held from June 25 to June 30 at the Medina County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

 

The event brought together young cattle enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate, compete and learn about the breed.

 

The local attendees earned the following honors:

 

Mark Snyder, 18, of Titusville — Grand Champion Overall Pure Breed Belted Galloway Bull; 4th Overall Intermediate Sales Talk; 3rd Intermediate Team Fitting; Reserve Grand Champion Overall Purebred Belted Galloway Heifer; Two Class Winners Belted Galloway Heifer

Maria Schwab, 13, of Oil City — 3rd Jr. Public Speaking; 5th Junior Sales Talk; Reserve Team Fitting; 4th Junior Judging Contest; 7th Overall Junior Points; Champion Belted Galloway Intermediate Heifer; Champion Belted Galloway Prospect Steer; Champion Overall Purebred Belted Galloway Steer

 

The Junior Nationals provided a platform for youths ages 8 to 21 to showcase their skills, dedication and passion for agriculture.

 

Over the course of the event, attendees had the opportunity to engage in activities, including a showmanship competition, a photo contest, a cattleman’s quiz, a judging contest, sale talk, public speaking and the heifer show.
