Horses for Healing held in Franklin

Horses for Healing, a children and teen bereavement camp sponsored by Venango VNA Foundation, was held Wednesday, Aug. 8, at VARHA (Venango Area Riding for the Handicapped Association) in Franklin. Staff from VNA and VARHA worked together to provide a healing day for children who have lost a loved one. VARHA staff instructed twelve campers how to safely groom, saddle, and ride each assigned horse. When campers were not learning about horses, they were creating memorial garden stones and discussing feelings in small groups. Horses for Healing is a therapeutic experience in which campers learn to grow beyond their losses. The day concluded with cart rides by VARHA staff and sharing about the crafts that each camper made.
