Hasson Park work forcing road closures

A handful of road closures will take effect today on Oil City’s North Side as work begins on a culvert replacement project in Hasson Park.

Beginning early this morning, crews from Horizon Construction Group Inc. of Sandy Lake will begin the restructuring of a culvert in the heart of the park.

Kelly Amos, the city’s director of community development, said the culvert has been having problems overflowing during heavy rainfalls, which has caused the surrounding road to begin washing out.

A larger pipe will be installed underneath the roadway as part of the project.

Once work is underway, Traction Street at Park Avenue will be closed, as well as Pleasant Street at Fisher Avenue.

Park Road at Maple Avenue will only be available to local traffic, Amos said.

The city is recommending motorists who want to visit the municipal swimming pool to take East Bissell Avenue to Oak Road and then to Park Avenue.

Amos said the culvert work is expected to be completed by Friday.

Crews from Horizon Construction will work rain or shine, with the exception of during severe weather conditions.

The $33,500 streambank stabilization project is being paid for through a Northwest Commission Greenways Block Grant, which is funding that is diverted through the Department of Environmental Protection.
