Girl with local ties earns medal at Special Olympics

Annamarie Nieves, granddaughter of an Oil City couple, traveled to the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in the United Arab Emirates, where she represented the U.S. and earned several top honors in rhythmic gymnastics. She won a bronze medal in the ball competition as well as fourth-place honors with the ribbon and hoop. She also placed eighth in the rope competition. The 18-year-old athlete is the daughter of Ann and Omar Nieves of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and the granddaughter of Kathleen and Richard Murray of Oil City. (Submitted photo)
