Franklin students do well in Academic Games tourney

From staff reports

Several students from Franklin Area School District placed in the 53rd annual Academic Games Leagues of America National Tournament held in Knoxville, Tennessee last month.

Senior Trevor Wood ended his ninth National Tournament placing second overall in the Theme game, which involved Greek and Roman mythology.

studentsTrevor was also named one of this year’s Outstanding Seniors. Franklin is among just several schools in the area to have two Outstanding Senior recipients. Michael Wisner received the award in 2015.

Eighth-grade student Alyssa Shick earned a rare perfect score in the game Propaganda and was named the Propaganda Nationals Champion.

She has attended the National Tournament for five straight years and is known for her Propaganda and Presidents knowledge.

Alyssa’s perfect score helped her team to place seventh in the middle division.

Her Presidents team finished third overall.

Alyssa is Franklin’s third National Champion in the last five years. Trevor was the National Champion in 2014, and David Ferraro was the National Champion last year.

Franklin also had two players, seniors Adam Taylor and Kiaran Rios, on the third place senior division Theme team. They combined with players from two other states to form the team.

Franklin had 11 students attend the tournament, including Maddy Bush, Sam Burchfield, Tyler Wood, David Ferraro, Christina Bullard, Carlito Motter and Kaizer Kadylak.

Each student competed against more than 1,000 students from Academic Games leagues representing nine states.
