Franklin Rotary to celebrate Peace Day

From staff reports

The Franklin Rotary Club is set for a multi-point service project on Tuesday for advancing peace locally.

The event coincides with the United Nations celebration of the International Day of Peace as Rotarians ramp up their efforts to attain world peace, according to Franklin Rotary peacebuilder chair Zachary Covington.

In keeping with that goal, Covington — who is also the club secretary — said Franklin Rotarians will be donating copies of “The Peace Book” by Todd Parr to all elementary schools, public libraries and day cares in the area.

At 12:45 p.m., the club will meet at the Franklin Fire Department where they are installing a garden peace pole in a garden bed, Covington said.

He added that 21 doves will be released following remarks at the ceremony.

Franklin Rotary dedicated its first peace pole on June 29 in Fountain Park as the club celebrated its 100th anniversary.
