Franklin man waives on burglary, strangulation, more charges

From staff reports

A Franklin man facing charges in two cases waived his preliminary hearings Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

Walter Andrews, 44, is charged with seven counts across both cases, which involved a burglary and strangulation incident in addition to drug possession.

The strangulation incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Aug. 16, at a Prospect Avenue residence in Sugarcreek Borough, according to a criminal complaint filed through district judge Patrick Lowrey’s office.

Andrews choked and threatened to “thrash” another man. He struck the man and dragged him around the home, causing scrapes and redness to the man’s body, and wouldn’t allow the man to leave the residence, the complaint said.

Andrews was charged with felony counts of burglary and strangulation, in addition to misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, simple assault and false imprisonment.

He was also charged on Aug. 16 with misdemeanor counts of use/possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

Charges filed against Andrews in connection with an alleged incident Aug. 12 that involved a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary count of harassment were withdrawn Wednesday.

Andrews remains in the Venango County jail on $10,000 bail.
