Franklin man faces drug charges

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing charges that accuse him of having methamphetamine in his possession in Franklin.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint they were searching apartment 3 at 1269 Liberty St. on Wednesday and found that Jonathan Vantassell, 40, had the meth.

Police said they found a large baggie filled with about 44.5 grams of meth along with several small baggies of meth in Vantassell’s apartment.

Police said they raided the apartment at about 12:30 p.m. with U.S. Marshals to apprehend Shain Focht, a fugitive absconder who was known to be in the apartment.

Focht ran but was caught after a short chase, police said.

Vantassell has been charged with a felony count of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was lodged in the Venango County jail after being unable to post $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
