Franklin man charged for crash that injured 3

A Franklin man is facing charges for crashing a vehicle while driving under the influence with a three-year-old passenger in the vehicle.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint that Kyle Robinson, 29, was driving on Union Street, also known as Cornplanter Hill Road, in Cornplanter Township on Aug. 5 when he swerved the vehicle to the right.

The vehicle hit an embankment, rotated clockwise, and hit a tree in what police described as a “serious crash,” the complaint said.

When police arrived, they observed the vehicle up against the tree with damage to its front driver side, debris from the vehicle, and about 60 feet of skid marks on Cornplanter Hill Road, the complaint said.

Robinson had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to the complaint.

Robinson told police he was driving “and the vehicle cut loose, and he hit a tree,” the complaint said.

The complaint notes that Robinson had red, bloodshot eyes, and he also told police he had been smoking marijuana while he was driving prior to the crash.

Robinson was transported to UPMC Hamot in Erie by STAT MedEvac helicopter for treatment of his injuries, the complaint said.

Two passengers, a 28-year-old woman, and three-year-old girl were transported to UPMC Northwest for treatment of injuries of unknown severity, the complaint said.

Robinson was charged with a felony count of endangering the welfare of children, two misdemeanor counts each of DUI and recklessly endangering another person, and four summary traffic violations.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23 in Venango County Central Court.
