Fire damages residence in OC

No one was injured after a house fire broke out at approximately 2:03 p.m. Sunday at 611 Mitchell Ave. in Oil City.

According to Oil City fire chief Mark Hicks, a three-year-old boy was able to obtain a lighter and caught his mattress and room on fire.

The house sustained heavy damage to some rooms and heat and smoke damage to others.

All residents of the home, owned by Robert Sibble and Alexandria Shreffler, were able to escape without injury. Three cats were rescued by firefighters and taken to an animal hospital by the family, Hicks said.

Oil City fire and police departments were assisted at the scene by Seneca and Franklin fire departments. Cornplanter Ambulance also assisted at the scene. Penelec was on scene for electrical concerns.
