Finding homes and funds

Area animal rescue groups are putting the fun in fundraiser as they plan outreach events and try to raise some money and find animals homes.

Here’s the Scoop

Venango County Humane Society in Seneca has Scoop available for adoption.

Scoop

Scoop

Scoop, a domestic short hair, is a 3-month-old neutered male. He’s a black tiger with contrasting areas of white. Scoop has large, upright ears, almond-shaped green eyes and a pink nose.

“He’s a laid-back kind of guy who gets along with people and also other cats. Cooper, another short hair tiger, had been his best bud and roommate until he was adopted. Now it’s Scoop’s turn to find a happy home,” the shelter said in a PetFinder listing.

The shelters hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through August. The humane society is located at 286 S. Main St., Seneca. More information on the Venango County Humane Society is available by calling (814) 677-4040.

Pet show planned

The humane society is also hosting the Oil City Pet Show on Wednesday, July 19, in Justus Park in Oil City.

Registration, music and games start at 5 p.m. with the show starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free. It is open to children 12 years old and younger. All animals must be on a leash that is no longer than 4 feet.

Categories for dogs include tallest, shortest, most unusual markings, best dressed and best tricks.

Categories for cats are biggest, smallest, most unusual markings, prettiest eyes and best dressed.

There is also a category for other animals.

DukeFest Candy Land Rocks may also be brought to this event to claim Rock Candy prizes.

Some real sweeties

Clarion PAWS in Shippenville has Twizzler and Oreo available for adoption.

Twizzler

Twizzler

“Twizzler still has a lot of growing to do. He likes attention but not as much as he loves to play. He is only about 9 weeks old and ready for his furrever home,” the rescue said in a Facebook post. “Where his Siamese coloration has come from we’re not sure, but he has flame tip markings.”

Oreo

Oreo

“Oreo has come a long way. He is a good example of why all cats should be spayed and neutered,” the rescue posted on Facebook earlier this week. “He was an unneutered 2 year old when he first came to us. His hormones made him out of control sometimes and we couldn’t let him with any other cats or visitors.”

“Now that he has had time to learn and calm down he shares his room with 5 other cats and asks for attention from everyone who comes to visit. Sometimes he still gets upset when there is too much excitement but this lively guy is ready for a furrever home where he can continue to learn to accept love,” the post continued.

The shelter also has lots of cute kittens looking for homes. They will be posting them daily on their Facebook page as the rescue tries to find them families.

Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays. More information is available online at www.clarionpaws.org, the group’s Facebook page or by calling (814) 229-1231.

The rescue is looking items for an upcoming sale planned Friday and Saturday, Aug. 4-5, at the SNYP building.

Theresa Weldon shared a few of the hefty Oscar Fund bills that have come in recently.

“Remember, the Oscar Fund does not get reimbursed or recouped though adoptions or from the people we help. The funding comes from the hard work of a few dedicated and exhausted volunteers,” Weldon posted.

“We have a yard sale coming up on August 4-5 at the SNYP building, Dukefest September 9th, the craft show September 30th, and a number of other events, we could really use your help and support,” she added.

Precious Paws can be reached by phone at (814) 671-9827 or by email at AdoptPreciousPaws@gmail.com. More information about the group and its low-cost spay/neuter program, SNYP, can be found online at pparfranklin.com or on the group’s Facebook page.

“If you use Amazon, please use Amazon Smiles and we benefit twice. Here are two kittens currently in foster who need your help,” the post continued.

“Betsy the little gray girl is eating on her own now, but still needs the milk,” the rescue posted.
