Environmental group to conduct water study

From staff reports

The Venango PA Senior Environmental Corps will conduct a spring macroinvertebrate study at 10 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting.

The study, which is open to the public, will be held at Lower Two Mile Run, off of Route 322 across from Deep Hollow Road.

Chemical testing of water and habitat assessment will also be done.

Aquatic macroinvertebrates are insects in their nymph and larval stages, snails, worms, crayfish, and clams that spend at least part of their lives in water.

Anyone interested in water quality may attend the event. No prior knowledge of macroinvertebrates is required.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the habitat, feeding methods, and life cycles of many of the organisms in the study.

The Environmental Corps is an unincorporated association affiliated with the Senior Volunteer Program of Venango County and the Venango Conservation District.

The group’s work in Venango County includes monitoring water quality and promoting environmental stewardship through projects, outreach, and education.
