Emlenton man facing strangulation, theft charges

An Emlenton man is facing charges for strangling and threatening a woman during a physical altercation at an Emlenton residence.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint that police responded to the residence Thursday where they made contact with a woman who told them Masson Powers, 33, placed his right arm around her throat during an argument and choked her until she passed out.

The complaint said the woman had a bloody lip from Powers striking her in the mouth.

The woman said that after she passed out, Powers kicked her to wake her up, then grabbed her by her hair and threw her around the house, dumped water on her and threatened to zip-tie her, the complaint said.

She told police Powers choked her multiple times, hit her on the cheek and dragged her across the basement floor, according to the complaint.

The woman said she was able to escape the basement when Powers went upstairs, and then he fled the scene driving her vehicle and in possession of her cellphone without her permission, the complaint said.

Powers has been charged with felony counts of strangulation and unauthorized use of motor/other vehicles and misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, theft by unlawful taking of movable property and simple assault and a summary count of harassment.

He was arraigned Sunday and placed in the Venango County jail after failing to post bail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled Nov. 18 at in Central Court.
