Driver in chase identified

From Staff Reports

Meadville state police have identified the driver who led police on a vehicle pursuit Wednesday morning.

Police said Donald Smith, 41, of Cooperstown, led a Venango County sheriff’s deputy and troopers from state police in Franklin, Meadville and Corry on a chase at low speeds through the northern part of Venango County and into Crawford County.

The chase ended in a driveway in Crawford County, police said.

Smith had fled Venango County when a sheriff’s deputy tried to arrest him on a domestic relations warrant, police said.

Smith was charged after the chase with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, fleeing or attempting to elude officers and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned before district judge Amy Nicols and placed in the Crawford County jail after failing to post bail.
