Creative Cookbook deadline is Friday

With just five days left for people to submit recipes for the newspaper’s annual Creative Cookbook contest, we have made it easier than ever for readers to try their hand at winning the $500 grand prize.

Recipes can be submitted via an online form at the newspaper’s website.

By going online to www.TheDerrick.com and clicking on the Creative Cookbook link on the home page – or clicking on SUBMISSION FORMS at the top right corner of the home page – readers can fill out an online form to have their recipes included in the annual cookbook and to try their hand at winning one of three top prizes in the contest: a $500 gift certificate for a local grocery store, a $200 gift card and a $100 restaurant gift certificate.

There are six categories in which to enter the contest.

They include the following:

— Appetizers & Miscellaneous

— Breads

— Soups & Salads

— Entrees

— Vegetables

— Desserts

A panel of judges will choose three finalists in each category.

The finalists will be asked to prepare their dish and bring it to The Derrick office in Oil City for a Taste Test on Friday, Oct. 14.

Honorable Mention winners in each category and all finalists will receive cash prizes.

The Creative Cookbook, featuring all of the reader-submitted recipes, will be published in three special sections to be included with the newspapers on Oct. 24, 25 and 26.

Friday is the deadline to submit recipes.

Finalists in the contest will be contacted by Monday, Oct. 10, to make arrangements for the Taste Test on Oct. 14.

Recipes also may be emailed to specialsections.thederrick@gmail.com or newsroom.thederrick@gmail.com. Those who email recipes should call Cindi Power at 677-8370 or toll-free at (800) 352-1002, Ext. 8370, to confirm receipt of their recipes.

Recipes also may be mailed to: Venango Newspapers, ATTN: Cookbook, P.O. Box 928, Oil City.

Each recipe should include the sender’s name, address and a telephone number so the sender can be eligible for prizes.
