Cranberry Bon-Ton not among 8 stores closing in state

From staff reports

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announced Wednesday it is closing 42 stores, including eight in Pennsylvania, as part of a company reorganization.

The Bon-Ton at the Cranberry Mall is not included on the list.

There are eight Bon-Ton stores shutting down in Pennsylvania with the closest locations being at the Millcreek Mall in Erie and The Commons center in DuBois. Other stores slated for closure are in Johnstown and State College.

Liquidation sales will begin immediately with the stores expected to close by April.

The store opened in March 1983 at the Cranberry Mall. The 45,000-square-foot department store was one of four businesses tagged as anchor stores – the others being Sears, Penney’s and Hill’s – when the mall opened.

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc., with corporate headquarters in York, Pennsylvania, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, operates 260 stores in 24 states in the Northeast, Midwest and upper Great Plains under the Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers nameplates.
