Chicks-in-the-Sticks returns

From staff reports

Friends of Oil Creek State Park will hold their Chicks-in-the-Sticks event after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event is slated for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 18. It will be held in the Egbert Farm Day Use area of Oil Creek State Park.

The purpose of the event is to introduce women to outdoor activities and crafts. Many classes and workshops will be offered throughout the day.

The classes are for women of all ages, starting at age 18.

Women will choose four classes in which to participate. Each class is hands-on, and the participants will produce an item, be introduced to a skill, or get projects that they can take home. These classes are run by expert instructors.

Classes such as kayaking, bike maintenance, bird identification, fly casting, outdoor photography, medicinal uses of herbs, edible plants, primitive fire making, the art of wood-burning on gourds, self-defense, yoga, and trail hiking will all be included in this year’s program.

Participants will also receive a “goody bag,” which includes a T-shirt and other gifts. Lunch will be provided.

A registration fee of $50 is required. Registration begins April 18 and ends June 10.

More details about the classes and instructors can be found by visiting the Friends of Oil Creek State Park’s website at www.friendsocsp.org or by visiting their Facebook page.

Registration can be made online.

Chicks-in-the-Sticks will be held rain or shine.

Class size is limited, so early registration is recommended.
