Charges reduced from felony to misdemeanor

An Oil City man who police said pointed a gun at two people late last month had two felony charges against him reduced to misdemeanors Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

According to court documents, two felony counts of aggravated assault against Brandon Corle, 24, were withdrawn, but two misdemeanor counts of simple assault were added in their place.

Assistant district attorney Justin Fleeger said the reason for the adjustment was because Corle’s conduct detailed by police did not fit the criteria of a felony.

Corle allegedly pointed a gun at another man at the Nickel bar following an altercation during the early morning hours of April 30, a criminal complaint filed by Oil City patrolman Timony Karns said.

Minutes after the original call, the complaint said police were dispatched to Country Fair for reports of Corle brandishing the firearm in the parking lot, the complaint said.

Karns reviewed video footage from the Country Fair and the complaint said it shows Corle pointing the gun in the direction of another man.

The two new charges of simple assault, as well as two original charges of recklessly endangering another person, were all waived for court Wednesday.

In addition, Corle’s bail was modified to unsecured and Fleeger said he will soon be released from the Venango County jail on house arrest, electronic monitoring.
