Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days fundraiser underway

From staff reports

Relay for Life teams in Venango County are participating in the American Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Days fundraiser.

Money raised this year through the sale of the bright, yellow blooms — and other flowers — is used to fund programs to aid people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

The daffodil is the first flower of spring and a symbol of hope, according to the Cancer Society’s website.

“Celebrating Daffodil Days is about much more than enjoying beautiful flowers; it’s about sharing hope for a world free from cancer,” the site says.

People who want to order the flowers may contact Judy Stevenson by telephone at (814) 827-2179 or (814) 777-3484, or by email at jstevenson@zoominternet.net.

Also coordinating local sales is Gayle Oxenham, who can be reached at (814) 673-6916 or oxjrrgg@verizon.net.

Stevenson and Oxenham are part of the Helping Hands Relay for Life team.

Flowers may be ordered through Feb. 18, and payment is due at the time of the order.

The flowers will be ready for distribution during the week of March 21.

Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society through the buyer’s choice of a Relay for Life team.

Daffodils are sold in bunches of 10 cut large blooms or in pots of live mini daffodils. Bunches of 10 cut tulips of assorted colors are also available.

The Gift of Hope program, which provides daffodils to local hospitals, cancer centers, and patients, also will continue.
