Attempted homicide charge against OC woman is withdrawn

All charges against an Oil City woman accused of attempted homicide were withdrawn Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

Deania Holmes, 43, was arrested April 10 at a North Street home for allegedly firing a gun at another woman who was trying to leave the residence.

Assistant District Attorney Kyle Peasley said the woman who was believed to be the victim is now believed to have fabricated the story and will be charged for making false reports.

“We continued to investigate this after charges were filed,” Peasley said. “No shots were fired on that day.”

Peasley said a witness came forward and said the other woman had been lying. The woman was also inconsistent with her story, at one point saying she was unsure if a gun had been fired at her, Peasley said.

Oil City police investigated damage done to the door frame at the home, allegedly caused by the gunshot. Peasley said police had noticed the damage to the door frame when they had investigated a separate incident at that residence before the reported homicide attempt.

The allegations against Holmes resulted in her being charged with attempted criminal homicide, attempted aggravated assault, intimidating witnesses, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and recklessly endangering another person.

Holmes, who had been held without bail since April 10, was released from the Venango County jail on Wednesday after all the charges were withdrawn.
