Arts Council plans Roaring ’20s speakeasy party

From staff reports

The Oil City Arts Council is going back in time for an evening during a Roaring ‘20s speakeasy event next month at the National Transit Building.

Arts Council member Kay Woods said the group decided that instead of hosting three smaller events, the council would plan this immersive speakeasy with appetizers, music and cocktails that were popular in the 1920s and 1930s.

The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, and 1920s-era attire is encouraged.

“We are doing everything as authentically as possible,” Woods said.

Live jazz music will be performed by Max Schang and Sweet Atmosphere.

Three Pittsburgh craft cocktail bartenders, Sean Enright, James Morrow and Stephanie Woods, who grew up in Oil City, will be making five cocktails that were popular in the 1920s for the event at a cash bar.

Tickets, which are $25 apiece, will be available beginning Monday at the Transit Art Gallery and Karma Coffee.

Only 50 tickets will be sold.
