Artists may enter items for nature art showcase

From staff reports

The third annual Nature Art Showcase will be held Feb. 2-3 in the lobby of the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin during the city’s annual Franklin On Ice celebration.

Local artists may enter items to be featured at the showcase, which is coordinated by the Council on Greenways and Trails in collaboration with the Penn Soil Resource Conservation & Development Council.

Desired items are 2-D and 3-D original art pieces depicting outdoor natural scenes and recreational activities conducted within Venango, Clarion and Crawford counties.

There is no entry fee involved, and there are no limits on the residency of the artists who participate. Each artist may enter one or two items, and each artist sets the retail selling price for those pieces which are for sale on site.

In order to be included in the printed Exhibition Booklet which all attendees will receive, artists must register their items by Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Registration instructions and forms are available online at www.nwpagreenways.org, or by calling Marilyn Black at the office of the Oil Region Alliance at 677-3152, Ext. 105, or by sending an email to mblack@oilregion.org.

Completed registration forms are to go to the attention of Sherry Moore at the Penn Soil office. She may be reached at (814) 726-1441, Ext. 1, or by email at pennsoilrcd@wcconservation.net.

The free exhibit will open at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, with a reception recognizing participating artists, and will continue until 7 p.m. that evening. Hours for the showcase on Saturday, Feb. 3, will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The showcase will include paintings, drawings, sculptures in wood and metal, fabric arts, photography, jewelry, pottery, coasters, woodburned items, woodcarving, watercolor and mixed media pieces. Those who attend will vote for a “People’s Choice” award.
