3 injured in Barkeyville house fire

Three people were injured in a house fire Friday in Barkeyville Borough.

The fire was reported at about 7:20 p.m. with two children having already escaped outside the Stevenson Road home, Clintonville fire Chief Grant Rea said.

Rea said he and Polk Borough police Sgt. Alan Heller arrived first on the scene and determined that a man was still trapped inside the building.

“Sgt. Heller and myself removed the male from the first floor bathroom. He was unconscious at the time,” Rea said.

Firefighters then contained the fire to the second floor and extinguished the blaze at about 7:50 p.m., Rea said.

The man was transported by ambulance to Grove City Medical Center for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation, Rea said.

The two children were also transported by ambulance to Grove City Medical center for treatment of smoke inhalation, Rea said.

“The fire damage was heavy on the second floor but there was no fire damage on the first floor, just water and smoke damage,” Rea said.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state police fire marshall,” Rea said.

Responding to the scene were Polk police, Superior Ambulance Service, and Clintonville, Pine Township, Grove City, Harrisville, Slippery Rock, Emlenton and East End volunteer fire departments, Rea said.
