2 food pantries have changed distribution procedures

From staff reports

Two area food pantries have changed how they will distribute food items.

— The Cranberry Food Pantry will have its regular food distribution from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday at the former Cranberry High School.

There will be a change, though, in how the food is distributed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The change, according to pantry director Janet Shaw, will involve people staying in their cars and driving up to the front door. One person will get out of the car and go inside the pantry area to register. They will then be able to select food boxes which will be taken out to the vehicles by pantry volunteers.

“We ask for patience because this will take longer,” said Shaw. “We have adequate food supplies so the distribution will last all afternoon.”

— The Shepherd’s Green Community Food Pantry distribution at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Franklin will happen Saturday, March 28, with a number of changes in procedure due to coronavirus concerns.

All food will be pre-packed in boxes or bags and will be offered in a walk-through service along the 12th Street side of the church.

There will be three stations, an administration table where clients will check in and be offered coffee, a table with frozen goods, and a station to pick up the pre-packed food.

In order to lower the number of people present at any one time, the pickup hours will be extended to 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and all participants must call the church office to make arrangements for a time slot.

The program is open to new participants. The church can be reached by telephone at (814) 432-5161.
